Coala Filmes is a Brazilian stop-motion production company that mixes art and original content. Founded in 2000 and based in São Paulo, it has produced several award winning short films, TV Series and Feature Films, all of them guided by the same principle: to create stories that are visually astonishing and unforgettable. The production company’s first feature film, “Bob Spit - We Do Not Like People”, won the Contrechamp Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Also it became the first latin American feature film to win the main prize in the Ottawa International Animation Festival, and it was also in the shortlist for the 2023 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

SILVANA RANDO

Silvana Rando was born in Sorocaba, countryside of São Paulo state, in Brazil. She grew up loving animals (from ants do elephants) and drawing. She started drawing and doodling in notebooks, journals, walls, sneakers and paintings, until she reached the books. Nowadays she has more than 40 illustration titles, 9 being of the "Gildo" collection.

In 2011, the "Gildo" book won the Jabuti Award, the most important in Brazilian literature. It was also considered on of the best 30 child books by Crescer magazine, a very relevant publication on children education and parenting issues in the country. The book sold around 150.000 copies only in Brazil, a very expressive number in the national editorial market.

COALA FILMES

Coala Filmes has an infrastructure that supplies the most diverse demands involved in production of animation projects: art departments, modeling and scenography workshops, as well as filming studios. Amongst its first works, the highlights are the stop-motion shortfilms “Re Bordosa Dossier” and “Storm”, both exhibited and awarded in several film festivals around the world, such as Annecy, Sundance, Hiroshima and Havana, amongst others. The production company also produced two seasons of the young adult TV Series “Angeli The Killer”. It is currently in post-production of the 2D animated series “Bill Plympton and Guard Dog in Brazil”, which adapts one of the most famous characters in American independent animation. It is also in pre-production of the stop-motion feature film “A Brazilian Penguin”, based on a book by Brazilian writer Indigo Indigo and looking for partners to coproduce Gildo´s second season.
